Race 7. The Carle Place Stakes. Purse $175,000. 6f turf 3yrs.
This test for three year olds looks fairly wide open with no clear favourite. There is not a ton of early speed so #9 Intricate Spirit (12-1 ML) or #8 Illmatic (9-2 ML) may get the chance to steal the race on the front end. Both are trained by Miguel Clement so a burn-it-to-the-ground speed duel is unlikely.
Four of these colts ran in the Bricks and Mortar Stakes last month, won by today's likely favourite #4 Doubting Thomas (ML 7-2). The race is wide open, but for most likely winner I will give the edge to my selection #7 Two Out Hero (ML 6-1).
#7 Two Out Hero (ML 6-1) was the 3/2 favourite in the Bricks and Mortar but looked uncomfortable boxed in on the rail. When he made a stretch move on the inside he was cut off by front runner Intricate Spirit and never threatened again. He switches jockeys and may be overlooked today although I don't expect to see the morning line price.
